I think i burnt some plastic, is this dangerous?

I was hoovering around the rim of my lights in my bedroom (i was using the plastic extension) and i noticed a burning smell so i stopped. Could it have made any bad fumes? I had my oil heater on in my room, would that make the fumes more toxic or something?
