What's going on in his head?

My next door neighbour is on his own like myself, we became friends and he even asked me 2 go camping with him sometime over the summer. I told him months ago that I liked him but cos his wife left him for another man, he has trust issues & won't let anyone close. I accepted that all it will be is a platonic friendship but last night we were chatting over phone & he made a point of telling me that he never wants me as a girlfriend or wife. I thought we had moved on from that, so for him 2 go out of his way 2 stress this point has left me feeling humiliated & hurt. I wouldn't mind if I'd deserved being put in my place but I have respected his choice. He said its so obvious I have feelings for him but I never thought I was being obvious. One minute he's asking me round for a barbie & next he's coming out with stuff like that. Is he just feeding his ego having me as a "mate"? I'm so unhappy & confused. I can't work him out...what's the general opinion on my little prob here?
