Are Atheists just a godless version of the dumb Christians they used to be?

When atheism started to spread in America I actually had some hope. I thought to myself finally the enlightenment age here. I've read before that being intelligent makes people tend to disbelief in God, but obviously disbelieving in God does not make people intelligent.
